Cosmetic Dentistry – Your smile matters

Published

on

Most of us take our oral health for granted and end up suffering. Our mouth is the entry point of nutrients in the body and keeping our teeth healthy, thus, becomes a key priority. Small modifications in daily habits and diet can bless us with healthy teeth, pretty smile and fresh breath.

Time surely has changed and now the appearance of your teeth and gums is as important as having a good oral health. Cosmetic dentistry, as the name suggests, is all about improving shape, size or the color of your teeth, and the overall appearance of your smile. It is now almost a cliche now, that “smile is the best jewellery one can have”. The smile you wear affects your first impression on any strange person, to a great extent; be it an interviewer or a date or maybe a client.

Here are a few ways in which cosmetic dentistry is done.

Dental Implants

Dental Implants are in the case of replacements for broken or lost teeth. They are metal (usually titanium) supports, surgically inserted beneath your gum, working as a frame or a root for the new tooth. They are preferred over the usual teeth replacements because they look and work just like your natural teeth.

Teeth Whitening

The color of your teeth is really important for your smile. Stained teeth are usually a result of smoking, drinking, food or poor oral hygiene. This is one of the most popular forms of Cosmetic Dentistry. Bleaching is preferred over gradual whitening because it gives instant results, though the white of bleaching may not be color of your natural teeth.

Dental Veneers

Dental Veneers are generally used to solve the problem of shape, size and alignment of your teeth. Proper shape and alignment of your teeth is must for an impressive smile. They are thin shells made up of ceramic materials such as porcelain. They also provide strength to the enamel.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and Onlays are similar to porcelain veneers. They are generally used in cases where a decay has just started and not just enough to support fillings. They are also known as Indirect Fillings because of this.

Invisalign and Braces

The alignment of your teeth is a key factor of your smile. Braces are the most commonly used techniques for restoring the orientation of your teeth. Invisalign are plastic forms of the braces. They are generally preferred because they hurt less than the traditional braces and are transparent.

There are many other forms of Cosmetic Dentistry such as Composite Funding, Dental Crown, etc. The American Dental Association does not recognize Cosmetic Dentistry as a formal area of specialisation. This brings us the most important concern – finding the right dentist. There are many dentists claiming to provide various services of Cosmetic Dentistry, but this doesn’t mean you have many options available! Cosmetic Dentistry is complex and requires supervision of professionals. Good luck finding the right dentist. Keep smiling!
