Mechanism and Composition – Generally a control cable comprises of single copper or aluminum wires which again is made up of either four to 61 strands with a cross section of 1-10 sq mm and for cross sections from 4-10 sq mm the number of strands does not exceed ten. These are carefully insulated with rubber, polyethylene, or polyvinyl chloride and well sheathed with lead or plastic. Control cables function like that of a bicycle. Types – There are mainly 3 types of control cables used widely, as described below:

  • CY Control Cables – These are used in interference-free transmission where there is high degree of circuit integrity and interference prevents transmission of signal in low or medium voltage installations
  • SY Control Cables – These are comparatively tougher and a robust cable, which promises mechanical protection. There is a range of SY Cables, especially designed with a protective layer of galvanized steel wire braid and transparent PVC outer sheath. These provide a strong mechanical protection layer. A longer lifespan means reduction in costs in the long run, which is the ultimate benefit of control cables
  • YY Control cables – These are used in several applications for use in control, signal and power cables. They have stronger external sheath which protects the cables from acids, corrosive substances, oils, grease and other reactive substances.
